Tackling homelessness and unemployment is high on the government’s agenda and new plans have now been revealed to launch a £3M project to help homeless people find work and break the cycle.
The new initiative will see the introduction of a Jobcentre Plus Outreach programme, with teams going out into the community and directly approaching those in need.
Homeless people will receive help setting up bank accounts, applying for work and accessing further support and benefits.
Since many rough sleepers are also victims of abuse or trauma, mental health support will also be provided.
Employers may want to take this opportunity to reconnect with Jobcentre Plus. Keep an open mind when examining candidates’ CVs and don’t forget that sometimes the best talent may come from those needing a second chance.
