First Aid: Update and Information

First Aid: Update and Information

  • Date: Tuesday 11th January 2011

First Aid training remains a fundamental part of any company’s training plan.  We have recently experienced a high number of enquiries relating to first aid requirements.  In line with the changes introduced by the HSE back in October 2009, employers are advised to use the findings of their first aid needs assessment to help them decide whether first-aiders should be trained in the full First Aid at Work qualification (FAW) or Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW).

Organisations should carry out a complete first aid needs risk assessments.  The HSE provide a useful tool which can be found via the following link http://www.hse.gov.uk/firstaid/assessmenttool.htm

Although not mandatory, the HSE do encourage first aid delegates to attend regular updates on annual basis.  These half day updates can provide a timely reminder of basic skills as well an update on first aid best practice.  SSG have a number of update courses scheduled for 2011 details of which can be found by clicking http://www.ssg.co.uk/services/service.php?id=68&main_cat=1&cat=39
