SSG's Third Annual Conference

Members came from across the South West to attend our third Annual Conference on Thursday 18 October at Exeter Racecourse.  We are proud to say it was a huge success!

The conference is exclusive only to members of our ADVISOR Health and Safety, HR and ISO schemes. 

This year our conference was based around an accident and the implications this could have on your business.  We looked at the different aspects relating to an accident, such as the HR implications, the mental health ramifications, what to expect from a visit from the HSE following an accident and your responsibilities going forward.

After an introduction from Managing Director Mark, the day opened with Operations Director Dr. Michael Cash addressing the fictional accident provided, the organisation’s responsibilities immediately after the incident, what needs to be reviewed and what should be in place, initiation of the accident investigation and preparation for interaction with the HSE.   Mark Fuge continued on to discuss the potential chain of events when a serious, non-fatal accident occurs, what happens when the HSE attends a site and what they look for in an investigation.

The second half of the conference saw Gemma McDonald and Adam Worth present on the mental health ramifications for all parties involved when an accident does occur, how companies can spot individuals struggling as a result and ways to help them. Manuela Grossmann, then spoke regarding the HR implications of an accident: how to deal with both the injured in terms of recovery and returning to work, as well as keeping the rest of the team updated.  Tim Harnett, Manuela Grossmann and Chris Prior concluded the presentations by looking at how we can help support companies with our ADVISOR schemes.

Once all presentations were complete, we held a question and answer session where audience members were able to ask the presenters any questions they had on any of the issues discussed throughout the day.  Finally, we were able to conclude the conference with a celebration of the companies that have belonged to our ADVISOR scheme for 10 years including; Blencowe Scaffolding Ltd, Brittany Ferries and Glanville Environmental.  Once the conference had finished, refreshments were provided along with the opportunity for members to network with each other as well as our team members.
