Recent research by Canada Life has shown that job applicants are more likely to select employers that offer clearly documented workplace benefits.  The research indicates that job applicants both internal and external value benefits highly when considering a new position but do not always understand what a potential employer is offering.

Understanding benefits is particularly important amongst workers aged 25-34 who say that clearly labelled benefits who help them in their decision making.

The research also shows that almost 20% of employees receive information on benefits when they first join an employer but then get no further information again and a similar number do not know who to contact to get more information.

The recommendations to employers from the research are:

  • Offer clear and accessible information on the benefits offered as this will strengthen your ability to recruit and retain staff
  • Engage with staff on the benefits that they would like to see you introduce
  • Appoint a key employee to be the contact point on all benefits
