Charity Spirit Is Alive at SSG

Charity Spirit Is Alive at SSG

  • Date: Monday 2nd July 2012

Over the past few months over £4000 has been raised by SSG Team members for Beating Bowel Cancer and Devon Air Ambulance.  From sponsored cycle rides to a hat trick of half marathons; sporting challenges have been the fundraising recipe for success at SSG.  Those not partaking in the sporting challenges have been doing their bit too through sideline supporting, encouraging words, and kind donations; everyone at SSG have been getting involved in one way or another.

Kim Moody, accounts manager at our Plymouth office took on the challenge of running 3 half marathons in 3 months.  Kim trained with colleagues in the evenings after work, in order to prepare for the challenge and team members Denise Maclean and Miles Redhead went one step further running the final Half with Kim in order to keep her motivated.

After a physically demanding 3 months Kim said: “It has been a really tough challenge both physically and mentally. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my work colleagues at SSG. We’re like a small family and so they were there for me every step. If they hadn’t been supporting me, I’m not sure I would have got through it.”
Kim completed each marathon in a time of just over 2 hours and raised £3710 – an amazing personal achievement and financial boost for the charity Beating Bowel Cancer; a charity close to her heart after her father was diagnosed with the disease back in February.  Kim is already keen to get training again – this time with her father, who is recovering well following his diagnosis.

Another team member, Jennifer Nash from our Wellington Office recently took on the challenge of cycling over 51 miles from Postbridge to Uffculme in aid of Devon Air Ambulance.  She completed the distance in 4 hours and 15 minutes.  When asked about her cycle ride Jen said: “It was a beautiful ride but extremely long for an inexperienced rider. We had a team of 35 cyclists and spirits were high throughout the journey – we were all cycling for a common purpose”

Collectively they raised £6000,  Jen said: “the money raised for Devon Air Ambulance was a reward in itself and made the 6 month training regime most definitely worth it. Thanks to my friends family and work colleagues whose support was greatly appreciated!”

The fundraising is not over yet, SSG have just entered 2 teams into Teignmouth Golf Clubs Charity Golf Tournament.  Wellington and Plymouth based Trainers and Consultants Simon Whittle and Paul Browne will be heading up both teams. Simon and Paul will be joined by clients with all funds raised being donated to the children’s charity NSPCC.  The tournament will take place on July 19th, let’s hope the Great British weather prevails for everyone and a great day is had by all.
Managing Director, Mark Salmon said: “I’m thrilled SSG and team members are able to help support these great causes, we have a great team and I look forward to the next challenge we can tackle together!”

We will keep you posted on any new and exciting challenges undertaken by SSG members and will relay the all important golfing tournament results on our Facebook page – SSG Training and Consultancy.
