As SSG's Managing Director, Mark is responsible for ensuring the company maintains its position as one of the leading training and consultancy providers in the South West and further afield. He is particularly passionate about ensuring SSG’s clients receive the very best service and experience, and places this ethos at the heart of the business.In addition to being the Managing Director at SSG for over 20 years, Mark is involved in various other businesses including Bays Brewery who are based in Paignton. He is also a Trustee of the Wild Planet Trust, a global conservation charity with zoos in Paignton and Newquay.Family time is key and Mark is very much kept on his toes by his three daughters! He likes to keep active either walking the dog, riding his bike or going on the odd run. Any other time is spent either holidaying or socialising with family and friends!
Denise's role is to promote, support and lead the commercial development of the company to ensure we are continually meeting and exceeding our client's requirements as well as looking to the future in terms of product and service development. She also ensures the company's current goals are communicated and met by our motivated and inspired team. Alongside this, Denise is SSG's champion for fundraising events, community engagement and sponsorship.Following graduating, her background experience came from her Marketing roles in a number of organisations. Since beginning her career with SSG in 2003, she has worked as part of, and headed up, the Marketing Team before rising through the ranks to her current directorial position. Denise has an enormous amount of pride in the company's growth over the last two decades. Outside of work, she can be found either on the netball court, at the gym or standing on side lines supporting her children in their various sporting endeavours.
Head of Business Support
Rachel is a key member of the Senior Management team in her role as Head of Services Support. She has responsibility for the resourcing, administration and finance areas of the business, ensuring these operate as efficiently and effectively as possible whilst maintaining excellent standards of customer service for our internal and external customers alike. Prior to her 20 years (this year!) with SSG, Rachel began working life in hospitality, studying a Diploma in Hotel Management. Her affinity with finance led her to study AAT qualifications and the Microsoft Office applications, with Excel being her firm favourite!Away from SSG she enjoys spending time with her family, whether it be going for long walks with a rewarding pub lunch at the end, celebrating special events or simply just being together.
Head of Growth
Matt heads up our Sales and Customer Service team and is responsible for ensuring that our clients receive the highest possible levels of customer service from initial enquiry through to end delivery. He works hard to develop strong partnerships and working relationships with companies across the region and raise the profile of SSG within the business community.His background experience spans over 20 years in sales and customer service roles in a range of public sector organisations and multi-national businesses. This has helped him understand what is required to meet and exceed client expectations, which is reflected when working with clients at SSG. Matt is a keen football fan, supporting both Aston Villa and Plymouth Argyle as well as spending a lot of time watching his two children play football. When the time allows, he enjoys travelling and spending time at the beach.
Head of Learning
Adam heads up the Training team at SSG whilst also delivering both training and consultancy services; his specialisms being CoSHH and Mental Health. He has a passion for training and has led NEBOSH courses, including Diploma, since 2012. His industry experience began following his degree in Chemistry, when he worked as a production chemist manufacturing and developing catalytic gas sensors. His first health and safety roles were for a range of top tier COMAH sites where he provided support with technical projects and emergency planning. From this he moved into textile manufacturing where he effected behavioural and cultural change by implementing a management system based on HSG65. In his spare time Adam volunteers as a school Governor, holds the position of acting Chair on the Southwest IOSH committee and works as a facilitator for Andy's Man Club. He also enjoys running, cycling, sci-fi and spending time with his family.
Head of Consultancy
Tim is a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner who heads up the Consultancy team at SSG. He delivers training and consultancy services at a senior level, specialising in ISO systems and leadership skills as well as working closely with our ADVISOR members. His background includes a degree in Environmental Science as well as broad experience across a range of industry sectors including aerospace, manufacturing, defence and construction. In his spare time, Tim holds the position of Secretary on the Southwest IOSH committee and is a serving officer in the Army Reserves.
Head of People Services
Manuela provides consultancy and training support to our customers and ADVISOR members, delivers our webinars and seminars, and is responsible for internal process improvement behind the scenes.Manuela has extensive experience as a HR generalist having worked across a variety of industry sectors such as hospitality, construction, food processing and manufacturing, public sector and retail. She has previously specialised in employee relations and engagement, organisational restructures and performance improvement.In her spare time, Manuela volunteers on the board of trustees at 'Volunteering in Health'. She also enjoys coast path walks and can, on the odd occasion, be spotted knitting on the beach.
