NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation
This course has been developed jointly by NEBOSH and the HSE following reviews that indicate incident investigations have generally been poor.
Course Attendees
This course is suitable for anyone who wants to carry out incident investigations effectively, including employers, managers supervisors, SHE champions, union and safety representatives, and aspiring health and safety practitioners. Note Whilst there are no entry requirements for this qualification, it is recommended that learners have an underpinning knowledge of health and safety issues, and many may have already gained another NEBOSH qualification. The standard of English required by delegates must be such that they can both understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.
Course Background
The NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation has been developed jointly by NEBOSH and the HSE following reviews that indicate incident investigations have generally been poor. Delegates who attend the course will be able to independently investigate simple incidents, gather evidence, produce an action plan to prevent reoccurrences of incidents, contribute to team investigations and positively impact on the safety culture within their organisation.
Course Duration
SSG offer this course over one day as a classroom course. Delegates will be required to complete three hours of pre-course reading before their course commences. Suggestions for this reading include:
Reading and understanding the requirements of their organisation's incident investigation policy
Reviewing a sample of their organisation's previous incident investigation reports to find out what lessons have been learnt
Reviewing some of the incident investigation case studies from the HSE's website that may be relevant to their organisation:

Understand how to investigate incidents and confidently carry out an investigation
Unit INV1:
Training Certification and Assessment
Assessment is throughout the course via application of knowledge by analysis of a theoretical incident investigation. On successful completion of this course delegates will receive a NEBOSH certificate.
