Top 10 of facilities job seekers look for from new employers

Published Nov 28, 2022

Flexible office specialists ‘Workthere’ have just released research showing what office amenities UK office workers look for when they are applying for a new job.

The most sought-after amenity is car parking which was most important for 32% of surveyed employees. This was closely followed by catering / food offerings at 31%.

The next three most desired amenities were free coffee, outside space and gym facilities.

Not far behind were office furniture, green spaces and relaxation spaces. Completing the top 10 desired amenities were pet-friendly spaces and security arrangements.

The research found that even though 60% of UK employees prefer to work in a hybrid role, the range and choice of facilities in an office can still impact the choice of employer.

Clearly there are a broad range of factors that influence how candidates are attracted and then retained by an organisation, but the range of amenities offered can be influential.

As employees and employers respond to the need for a more sustainable future, we can anticipate that the desire for car parking may fall from its position as the top-ranking amenity. It is also likely that wellbeing factors and the desire for work / life balance will become more influential. Employers therefore need to improve their offerings in these areas to be competitive in the job market.

It is important to canvas the views and needs of your workforce and put in place a plan that will enable you to retain your current talent and attract the best applicants available.
