Create a Productive Office Environment

Key to the success of any business is a productive office environment. The right environment can boost creativity, efficiency, motivation and the well-being of a team. There are several relatively simple steps that you can take to make your office environment more productive.

Noise Levels – Noise levels can significantly impact productivity. Some team members prefer noisy and “buzzy” environments. Whereas others will be distracted, unable to concentrate and prefer quiet areas. Consider setting up quiet office zones for those that need peace to concentrate.

Break Out Areas – These areas provide a location to relax and implementing them will encourage employees to take regular breaks and help contain stress levels. Break-out areas can double up as a location for informal meetings that generate creativity and build cooperation within the team.

Canvasses / Decorations - Decorations play a role in creating a productive environment in the office.

Consider canvasses featuring images of the team, landscapes, your company values or motivational quotes. Canvasses can have a positive impact on employee well-being for example a countryside or coastal scene may help to reduce stress or motivational quotes may inspire the team to refocus on their work.

Ergonomic furnishings – Consider furniture that provides comfort and support to team members with the aim of minimising discomfort or injury. Start with ergonomic chairs that encourage good posture and back support. Also, look at desk layout and height and tailor this to individual needs. Ensure you conduct DSE assessments annually for each employee. These actions will increase productivity and reduce the risk of back pain or RSI.

Plants – Plants will improve air quality, help reduce stress and improve mood which will all help contribute to increasing productivity levels.

Consider low-maintenance plants to start with and assign several team members responsible for their wellbeing.
