Engagement of your workforce is more important than ever!

Engaging your employees during a sparse candidate market is critical as it may be difficult to replace them.

A study has found that losing one staff member could create a domino effect on the aspirations of other staff members who will begin to look for opportunities elsewhere. An ADECCO study found if one staff member resigns this could create FOMO (fear of missing out) prompting others to dream that the ‘grass is greener’ elsewhere.

34,200 workers were polled across 25 countries as part of ADECCO’s Global Workforce of the Future study. The study found that 7 out of 10 employees wanted to resign from their current role following the resignation of a colleague. Fortunately, when questioned further only half of those looking at new opportunities said they would go on to hand their notice in. UK-specific data shows that three in ten (29%) would consider a move to another role following the resignation of a colleague.

The cost of living crisis and inflation was partly blamed for employees’ lack of commitment to their current employer, with three in five employees living with the fear that their current salaries would not cover increases in the cost of living.

These findings serve as a stark warning sign to employers. It is important to ensure you engage with your employees to discover what matters to them. Ensure their work is meaningful and they are duly rewarded. Those rewards should include thanks and gestures of appreciation and benchmarking to ensure your salaries remain competitive within your sector and for their skillset.
