City & Guilds 6160-05 Award in Supervising Teams Undertaking Work in Confined Spaces
The City & Guilds Training Scheme 6160 is the water industry standard. All water companies participated in the formulation of this scheme to ensure that training quality is consistent and accepted nationally.
Course Attendees
This unit is for supervisors of confined spaces.
Note:
Delegates must be medically fit and healthy and have reached the age of 18. They will be wearing harnesses and the safe working load of our working equipment is 136kg. They must also hold a current 6160-02, 6160-09 or 6160-03 qualification.
Delegates are required to bring to the course proof of ID in the form of a valid UK driving license, passport or CSCS card. They will also need overalls and boots with a steel toe cap. If delegates would like to bring their own work gloves, they should comply with EN388.
Course Background
The City & Guilds Training Scheme 6160 is the water industry standard. All water companies participated in the formulation of this scheme to ensure that training quality is consistent and accepted nationally. Candidates who successfully complete higher-level training, up to CG6160-03, will automatically be accredited with lower risk schemes.
The aim of this course is to reflect the National Occupational Standard (NOS) for controlling entry and arrangements at a confined space. This unit covers both water and non-water industry areas:
This course will cover planning and allocating activities for a team, pre-entry procedures, entry into and exit from the confined space, selection of personnel, maintaining communications and initiating and controlling emergency procedures.
Course Duration
SSG offer this course over two days in partnership with Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue and Red One.
Course Programme
Students will be given a confined space work scenario – they will make an initial assessment of the confined space and will risk assess and classify the space. The course will also include the production of a work plan (safe system of work).
Training Certification and Assessment
Assessment of delegates is by practical observation and written test.
All persons who successfully complete the practical and written test will receive a City & Guilds 6160-05 certificate. This certificate is valid for three years.
