CITB Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme

This course provides delegates with an introduction to environmental issues on construction sites.

Course Attendees

The course is designed for those who have, or are about to acquire, supervisory responsibilities.

NOTE: Delegates must be competent in English at supervisor level in order to complete this course.

Course Background

Environmental issues are becoming increasingly important to businesses of all sizes. This course is intended for those operating at a supervisory level and covers all relevant legislation and other aspects that affect the environment in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It will also provide a broad understanding of the environment and the issues construction sites face.

Course Duration

SSG offer this course over one day as a classroom or virtual course.

Course Programme

On completion of the course, construction supervisors will be able to:

  • Supervise and protect the environment through legal provisions

  • Protect the eco-system - the relationships and interactions between animals, plants (flora and fauna) and organisms and their environment

  • Follow environmental management systems and processes to mitigate environmental damage

  • Play their part in reducing statutory nuisance and disturbance to neighbours

  • Manage the impact that archaeology and heritage can have on construction

  • Control water consumption and reduce the impact construction has on natural water supplies

  • Implement control measures to prevent the pollution of watercourses

  • Identify ethically sourced timber through the chain-of-custody entering site

  • Identify, control and manage contamination on brownfield sites

  • Classify, segregate and properly dispose of waste

Training Certification and Assessment

Assessment will be by multiple-choice questions at the end of the course. Delegates will also be expected to actively take part during the course. Successful delegates will be awarded with a CITB certificate which is valid for five years.
