City & Guilds 6160-03 Award in Working in High Risk Confined Spaces

The City & Guilds Training Scheme 6160 is the water industry standard. All water companies participated in the formulation of this scheme to ensure that training quality is consistent and accepted nationally.

Course Attendees

Open enrolment – for those who are training to work in the water industry or seeking employment, or work engaged in any capacity where competency in high risk confined spaces is required.

NOTE: Delegates must be medically fit and healthy, have reached the age of 18 and be clean shaven. Candidates will be wearing harnesses and the safe working load of our working equipment is 136kg.

Delegates are required to bring to the course proof of ID in the form of a valid UK driving license, passport or CSCS card.

Course Background

The City & Guilds Training Scheme 6160 is the water industry standard. All water companies participated in the formulation of this scheme to ensure that training quality is consistent and accepted nationally. Candidates who successfully complete higher-level training, up to CG6160-03, will automatically be accredited with lower risk schemes.

The course incorporates the use of self-contained breathing apparatus and is designed for persons working in NC Level 4 high risk environments as specified below

  • NC4 classification: Non-standard entries involving complete operations which introduce additional risks and require specific controls and rescue arrangements e.g. mechanical hazards, physical complexity of the system introduced hazards, enhanced specific intrinsic hazards. Full breathing apparatus (working) requested to be worn at all times.

Course Duration

SSG offer this course over three days in partnership with Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue and Red One.

Training Certification and Assessment

Assessment is by practical observation of entry into a realistic NC4 category high risk confined space and written test.

All persons who successfully complete the practical and written test will receive a City & Guilds 6160-03 Certificate in Working in High Risk Confined Spaces. The certificate is valid for three years.
