Asbestos Awareness Training
- Date: Friday 31st July 2009
SSG, a Plymouth based health and safety training provider, has received the prestigious status of becoming a UKATA registered member.
The United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) has been formed to promote and establish the very best practices relative to the delivery of all types of asbestos related training. They have achieved this by working with official governing bodies to uphold national standards and requirements by improving asbestos training standards, procedures and dsiciplines. The course content, instructors and training premises are subject to a rigorous assessment to ensure compliance with UKATA standards.
The asbestos regulations do place a very specific requirement for various trades to receive asbestos awareness training on a regular basis. These trades include electricians, plumbers, painters and decorators, maintenance operatives and anyone else who could potentially expose themselves or others to asbestos.
Asbestos is the single greatest cause of work-related deaths in the UK. Every week 20 tradesmen die from asbestos-related disease. If you carry out work on a building that was built or refurbished before the year 2000, you could have been exposed to asbestos, without even knowing it. Asbestos is a hidden killer.
Miles Redhead, lead Asbestos tutor for the centre, said \'We are extremely pleased that our Asbestos Awareness courses have received recognition by UKATA. Demand levels for Asbestos Awareness courses across all industry sectors but particularly in Construction have been extremely high and so our UKATA approval has come at a good time. We are now able to offer our Clients a more local tranining solution to help raise the levels of asbestos awareness across industry.\'
