Tribunals Confirm Seriousness of Health & Safety Breaches

The recent ruling in a case of potential unfair dismissal confirmed that dismissing somebody for something that may seem like a minor breach of procedure can still be legitimate.
Greggs dismissed one of their bakers, who had failed to wash his hands before entering the preparation area. While this decision may seem unreasonable to some, Greggs argued that the employee had been with the company for 11 years and should have known better. Furthermore, they would now find it hard to trust him to follow processes in the future.
