No Icy Reception for SSG
- Date: Tuesday 15th July 2008
Local health and safety service provider SSG Training and Consultancy are pleased to announce their sponsorship of an exciting new project, which will culminate in an unsupported expedition to the North Pole!
The project, which involves a class of year 10 students from Plymouth High School for Girls, will see the pupils working on various tasks helping to ensure intrepid local explorer Duncan Kenny can complete a successful unsupported solo expedition to the North Pole. The girls are involved in a variety of tasks including producing a high calorie snack bar, a website for expedition news, designing a fitness program and contacting companies for sponsorship and equipment.
After being contacted by pupils working as part of the Expedition support team, SSG were so impressed by their positive and enthusiastic attitude that they have initially pledged £500 to the project. After listening to further presentations, SSG have agreed to offer additional support through match funding of any sponsorship money achieved by the pupils over the next 6 months.
Mark Salmon, Managing Director of SSG, believes the project to be a great example of what can be achieved by a positive attitude ‘We were initially contacted by the pupils through a variety of mediums including letters and telephone calls and were very impressed by their proactive approach to the project. We are extremely pleased to be able to offer our support to a local community based project like this that can offer pupils the opportunity to become so actively involved in making a project a real success. Duncan’s drive and motivation are a real inspiration to everyone involved and we are sure his trip will be a real success.’
The expedition itself is scheduled for April 2009 and SSG will continue to work with both Duncan and the pupils on a variety of sponsorship and fundraising projects until this time.
