ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management
ISO 50001 is the internationally recognised standard for energy management systems, enabling organisations to establish the systems and processes necessary to continually improve their performance, efficiency, use and consumption of energy.
It builds upon the spirit of ISO 14001 regarding environmental management but focuses in on the single aspect of ‘energy’.
Although relevant to many types and sizes of organisation, successful certification to ISO 50001 also provides larger companies (250+ employees) with an alternative route to ESOS compliance (providing 90% of total energy use is covered).
The BS EN ISO 50001:2018 standard is built around the following top level structure, from Annex SL:
- Context of the Organisation
- Performance Evaluation
All management system standards will be built around this top level structure to enable better and easier integration with other standards and system elements, should a company wish to add these at a later date.
