A Busy Year of Activities for SSG!
- Date: Tuesday 27th November 2018
2018 has been a very busy year for us here at SSG. Many of our team walked, ran and swam their way through the year at several events, including: The Great North Run, the Plymouth, Ivybridge and Totnes 10k, Plymouth Half Marathon and the Plymouth Breakwater Swim. For many of our team, this was their first attempts as such distances, so huge congratulations to all.
Along with the team activities, we have supported many local individuals and charities with their fundraising efforts. Donations were made to Callum Naish and Tim Whittle; Callum Naish embarked on a great adventure during the Summer to Bangladesh as part of his International Citizen Service placement with Volunteer Service Overseas, and Tim Whittle will be walking from John O’ Groats to Land’s End in May 2019 to raise awareness of Men’s Mental Health.
Sponsorship was provided to James Rowe, U15 cricketer for Devon Cricket Club, and support to the whole team on their tour of South Africa, as well as the sponsorship of Manager’s coats for Ivybridge Football Club. Our annual donation of Easter Eggs was also collected for children’s charity ‘CHICKS’; this year beating our previous record with 100 Easter Eggs!
Other support this year has included a variety of charities and efforts close to home, including Armed Forces Day in May, the ‘Pledge Less Plastic’ campaign in June, and continual support for the ‘Take 10 Together’ campaign through Mental Health training and infographics.
We also participated in teambuilding activities, including ‘Last Team Standing’ held at Oddicombe beach in September. With two teams competing, we were successful in achieving 4th and 5th place – next year we’re aiming to fill 1st, 2nd and 3rd place!
To round off the year, we sold raffle tickets and took part in the BBC’s Annual Duck Race and raised over £150 for Children in Need!
We would like to give a huge thanks for all of our team’s efforts this year, and we hope that 2019 will be just as successful.
