Payments for Asbestos Disease

Payments for Asbestos Disease

The Ministry of Justice has announced this week that a payment of £5,000 will be made to thousands of workers suffering from an asbestos-related disease.

The previous Labour government had been heavily criticised by victims after ministers did not change a Law Lords ruling that prevents sufferers of pleural plaques - a scaring of the lungs caused by exposure to asbestos - from claiming compensation.

People who have already started a legal claim for compensation will be eligible for a payment of £5,000. As many as 6,000 people could be affected campaigners have said.

The scheme opens on Tuesday and sufferers in England and Wales have until August 1, 2011 to lodge a claim.  Visiti www.justice.gov.uk for more information

The course that I have just undertaken was very relevant for me to do my job correctly. The way in which the course was presented was excellent, going over all the different topics clearly and involving everybody on the course. (CSkills SSSTS)
